Always ahead of the curve, video hosting mavericks Blip.tv announced today plans to migrate from video hosting to an ASCII art delivery system.
From their blog:
Blip will accept uploads of legacy video formats such as QuickTime and Flash, and will transcode them into ASCII for display. Within several weeks, other video formats are expected to be phased out in favor of a pure text experience.
I for one am very excited about this development and look forward to seeing how my videos transcode to ASCII. I think people long for the nostalgia of simpler displays, and Blip, once again, proves to be a leader in the field.
Here’s forward-thinking Blip CTO Justin Day on their vision:
Users are more than happy to sacrifice color for faster download speeds. Text is the future, and we intend to remain on the forefront of development.
